Sky Pape has once again found a new way of defining “drawing” in her show at June Kelly Gallery. Based on the infinity sign, this series of works on paper are crafted through several stages of brushwork, some with natural objects, water rinses, and flat color fields that defy you to determine whether they were taped out, painted under or meticulously masked onto the sumi ink loops. The source material for the abstracts is considerations of infinity, mortality, and meaning, and these drawings certainly inspire an optimistic outlook.
