A great double bill short form performance on November 15. “a spell for fainting” featured DJ Ivan Talijancic, VJ Shige Moriya, and PJ (performance jockey) Gillian Chadey in a mashup that drew on an array of sounds, songs, pixelated beauty projected on the white marley, and drama from classical to broadcast.
The second piece, “This takes place close by,” by thingNY, was a contemporary short opera that rethought the form, putting the audience in the middle of performers. It used a flashlight and umbrella-lit set and dripping water, cell phone intercoms, violin, bass, sax, synth, spoken word, and voice to create an engaging textural commentary about devastating storms.
